Open Gym Requirements & Rules
OPEN GYM POLICIES
We invite current students and professionals alike to attend open gym with us. You may use something of ours or, with preapproval from COAA, bring your own apparatus to hang and practice on. Open Gym Certification sessions will be held during the first 5-10 minutes of the open gym time.
New students to COAA: Must have been studying aerial consistently for at least 6 months prior to open gym. Any new students that cannot make these session times must:
Current students: Must be working at an Intermediate level; must speak to their instructor for open gym approval.
Professionals: Must be evaluated by COAA staff.
Requirements: Before dropping in for an open gym evaluation, please ensure that you can successfully complete the following skills unassisted:
OPEN GYM RULES
* You may not teach or ask anyone to teach you anything during open gym. Open gym is for practicing what you know, and only what you know. Instructors are present for safety’s sake, but they are not there to instruct during open gym. Asking another student how to do something is dangerous, as they are also learning and may not fully understand the movement. When in doubt, get down, and ask in class later.
* You must have a mat underneath all aerial equipment.
* There will be no filming or picture taking during open gym. This is out of respect for the works in progress of artists coming to open gym. There is plenty of time at the end of classes to film or shoot pictures.
* Do not wear any jewelry, zippers, snaps, abrasive fabrics, sequins, rhinestones, or other sharp objects on their person while on the silks. Do not chew gum. Participants need to have reasonably trim nails to use the silks.
